The death of Abaan Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, in a road accident on the Jhansi highway has once again brought the Ahmed family into focus. Once regarded as one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential crime families, the Ahmeds have witnessed a series of deaths, arrests and legal troubles since 2023. Atiq Ahmed and his son Asad were killed in separate incidents in April 2023, while his wife Shaista Parveen remains absconding. Two of his sons are in judicial custody, another was placed in a child protection home following Atiq’s death, and Abaan’s death marks yet another chapter in the family’s dramatic decline.
