A fresh political confrontation has erupted in Tamil Nadu over the Mekedatu project, with Chief Minister Vijay and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin trading sharp remarks. While Vijay says his government has passed a resolution, written to Prime Minister Modi and consistently opposed the project, Udhayanidhi has accused the government of failing to build political consensus and questioned why an all-party meeting has not been convened. The row has also drawn in the AIADMK and BJP, escalating the battle over Cauvery water rights and farmers’ interests.
