Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has welcomed US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor’s statement that Jammu and Kashmir is an “important part of India”. Tharoor described the remarks as “very good” and said they reaffirm a position India has maintained for a long time. Gor made the remarks during his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar. The statement comes amid indications that Washington may review its travel advisory for the region and as India-US ties remain under close watch.
