Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay hoisted the National Flag at Fort St George in Chennai on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, marking his first Independence Day celebration as Chief Minister. Addressing the gathering, Vijay paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence and extended his Independence Day greetings to the people of Tamil Nadu. In his speech, Vijay said that true freedom can only be achieved when caste and religious divisions disappear and people come together as one society. He also stressed the need to protect Tamil Nadu from bribery and corruption and called for an administration built on honesty, transparency and accountability.
