A political row has erupted after Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day address from the Red Fort to urge all parties to support the Women’s Reservation Bill. While the Prime Minister called for women’s representation in legislatures to become a national priority, the Congress hit back, saying the BJP should have implemented the measure already if it was serious about women’s reservation. The opposition also claimed it had supported the legislation in 2023 and questioned the delay in its implementation.
