WhatsApp has begun rolling out username reservations ahead of the wider launch of usernames later this year. The feature will let users connect without sharing their phone numbers and includes privacy measures such as an optional username key for first-time contacts. WhatsApp says there will be no public username directory or suggestions. The company has also introduced a username generator and will let creators, businesses, and organisations claim their existing Instagram or Facebook usernames for a consistent identity across Meta platforms.
