A statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was vandalised in Shillong during a protest bike rally organised by the Khasi Students’ Union on August 19. The KSU has been agitating over a five-point charter of demands, including reforms to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission and District Selection Committees. Several vehicles were also torched during the protest, drawing condemnation from local residents over the vandalism of Netaji’s statue. Three KSU leaders have been sent to jail in connection with violence during the Shillong protest.
