CBSE has clarified that Class 9 students entering the 2026-27 academic session will need to clear the school-based assessment in the third language (R3) to receive the Class 10 pass certificate, despite no Board exam being conducted for the subject. The revised three-language policy requires students to study three languages, including at least two Indian languages. The move comes amid legal challenges and concerns over implementation, resources and academic burden on students.
