At least seven people were killed and several others injured after a fire broke out at a four-storey hotel in West Bengal’s Birbhum district early Monday morning. The blaze erupted around 4:30 am on the ground floor of the hotel in Tarapith while most guests were asleep. Firefighters brought the flames under control and rescued injured guests, who were taken to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital. A preliminary assessment suggests an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire. Police are investigating.
