A fresh confrontation has erupted between the Tamil Nadu government and the Governor over the control of state universities. The state government has once again demanded that Chief Minister Vijay be appointed Chancellor of state universities instead of the Governor.
A senior Tamil Nadu minister said it is time to revisit the existing system, arguing that elected governments should have a greater role in governing higher education institutions and that the Chief Minister should head state universities.
