Water cannons were deployed at the Ranchi protest today after students breached barricades and marched towards the Jharkhand assembly. Facing the gushing water, the protesters then started dancing, evoking scenes from Bihar when water guns were brought out to suppress paper leak protesters in Patna. Their careers plagued by paper leaks, the students reached the Jharkhand Assembly today to press their demand for reforms in recruitment tests. Student leader Devendra Mahto, who had been on hunger strike, appealed to the protesters not to argue with the police if they are stopped and search for new avenues to reach the assembly in a disciplined manner.
