‘Just Doing What My Role Demands’: Tukaram Mundhe On His Work Ethic

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe opens up about his approach to public service, saying he does not consider his work extraordinary or inspirational, but simply what is expected of his role. In a candid conversation, Mundhe says that if everyone performs their responsibilities honestly and transparently, society can become better. Addressing criticism that he is “arrogant” or does not listen, Mundhe says such allegations have followed him throughout his career. He explains that his philosophy is straightforward: be honest and transparent about what one is expected to do and what one has actually done. “If it succeeds, nothing like it. If it doesn’t, at least I have tried,” Mundhe says, reflecting on his approach to public service and accountability.
