India has stepped up humanitarian assistance to flood-hit Nepal, with a second Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster carrying around 37.5 tonnes of relief material taking off for Kathmandu.
The consignment includes medicines, food supplies, blankets, mosquito nets, tarpaulins, dignity kits, solar lamps and temporary shelters to help thousands of people displaced by the devastating flash floods. India’s first tranche included around 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, including earth-moving equipment and essential supplies.
The Indian government says it remains in close contact with Nepalese authorities and is prepared to send additional assistance. Meanwhile, disaster-response teams are also on standby in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, monitoring areas that could potentially be affected by rising water levels following the floods.
