The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment (FCRA) Bill will now be taken up for discussion in Parliament on August 12, according to sources.
The development comes amid a political storm over the proposed legislation. While the government says the Bill will strengthen oversight of NGOs receiving foreign funds, enhance transparency, and safeguard national security, the Opposition has criticised it as “draconian”, raising concerns over provisions related to NGO regulation and the appeals process.
