Jantar Mantar was everywhere on Instagram. Jharkhand’s student protests were not. But why?
Both protests involved young people, student anger and dramatic clashes with authorities. Yet the difference in their social media visibility was striking. Data analytics firm DataBeings analysed Instagram coverage and found that searches for the Delhi CJP protest generated 5,239 posts from 3,100 accounts, reaching 1.85 crore people, while the Ranchi student protest had 1,062 posts from just 290 accounts, with a reported reach of around six lakh.
