Devighat After The Flood: Temple, Market Submerged Under Mud And Debris

NDTV is on the ground at Devighat in Nepal, a major pilgrimage and religious site that has been devastated by the flash floods. The area, which was bustling with devotees, shops and hotels just a day ago, is now buried under thick layers of mud, silt and debris.

Multi-storey buildings have been submerged in mud up to the first floor, with homes, hotels and shops badly damaged. JCB machines are working continuously to clear the debris and recover whatever belongings local residents may have managed to save.

With water levels beginning to recede as the weather improves, rescue and relief operations are gaining some momentum. But the devastation at Devighat offers a grim picture of the force and scale of the flash floods that swept through Nepal.
