Cybersecurity incidents in India have surged, with nearly 29.44 lakh incidents reported and tracked in 2025 — almost 85% higher than the 15.92 lakh incidents recorded in 2023. Experts say the rise reflects both the growing number of cyberattacks and improved detection capabilities as more Indians move online and AI becomes increasingly powerful. Former MeitY cyber law official Ramesh Maheshwari explains how AI is changing the cyber threat landscape and why organisations need to strengthen detection, regularly update systems and quickly address vulnerabilities. CERT-In has also issued guidelines requiring organisations to respond rapidly to detected vulnerabilities.
