China has evacuated more than 1.7 million people and issued high-level weather alerts as Typhoon Bavi approaches the country’s eastern coast. With winds reaching 144 km/h, the powerful storm is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang before moving inland, prompting mass evacuations, flight cancellations and transport disruptions. Authorities have suspended schools, ferry services and several high-speed rail routes, while emergency rescue teams remain on standby across Zhejiang and Fujian provinces. China has also issued its first red rainstorm alert of the year and allocated 40 million yuan in disaster relief funds as Typhoon Bavi threatens widespread damage.
