Congress leader P Chidambaram has hit back at Union Minister Kiren Rijiju over the implementation of women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha. Chidambaram said the reservation is already provided for under the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act, 2023, and accused the BJP government of unnecessarily linking it to the Census and delimitation exercise. He argued that removing this linkage could allow women’s reservation to be implemented ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
