The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the ₹84,084-crore ‘Samudra Manthan’ National Offshore Exploration Scheme. To be implemented through FY 2030-31, the programme is being billed as India’s most ambitious offshore oil and gas exploration initiative, aimed at strengthening the country’s hydrocarbon sector and enhancing energy security.
