Anthropic has explained the technology behind Claude’s upcoming text watermarking system, which will use word-selection patterns to indicate whether the AI contributed to a passage. The company says the method will not alter response quality, add hidden characters or increase costs. Detection will be less reliable for short, factual or lightly edited text, while code will generally carry less of the watermark. Anthropic is also preparing a detection API and will apply C2PA metadata to supported files created or processed by Claude.
